It was good to be back in the pool for the last swim of the summer series! The warm water at Woodside was a welcome reprieve first thing in the chilly morning before the team got stuck into their swims. This time we had Albert, Alvin, Andrew, Kimberley, Nic, and Radek, with Nic joining UniSA recently and representing the club for the first time!
The day started off with some big 400m swims, with Andrew and Alvin taking on 400 IMs! Alvin put in a solid effort to finish with a time of 5:38.98, while Andrew saved himself for his remaining events, a wise decision given his events were 1, 3, and 4, so hardly any time for a recovery swim. Albert was very happy with his 400m Freestyle since it was his first competition back in the pool since breaking his arm in December. Radek also had a crack at the 400m Freestyle and managed to keep consistent and come home strong.
Kimberley made a brilliant showing doing the 50 Fly, Freestyle and Backstroke, coming straight off a night shift! She even brought fruit and lollies to share, which was very appreciated by everyone at the pool. After her swims, she headed home for a well-deserved meal and sleep before starting her next night shift.
This was Nic's first competition with UniSA after enjoying his time at Strathalbyn. This was also his first 100m swim in around 30 years, but it didn't show with Head Coach Andrew commenting that his Freestyle looked very smooth and consistent throughout, managing a time of 1:17.86. The 50m Breaststroke was definitely the event to watch, with Nic and Radek neck and neck at the turn. But Radek managed to take it at the finish by only 0.55 seconds!
Albert couldn't quite find his rhythm for the 100 Breaststroke but managed to find it again for the 50 Breaststroke, where he smashed out a 35.54. Alvin's rhythm for the 100 Butterfly was impressive to watch, finishing in a 1:04.89.
Shoutout to Lexie for coming along before her lifeguard shift to support the team, and for recommending the toasties at Woodside, which Andrew can now also vouch for! Overall, a fun day in the sunshine at Woodside, with some new and regular faces, which was a good way to end the summer series. We're all looking forward to the winter series, starting with the SC State Cup on May 1!
