2021-22 Summer Pool Series Meet 2 – Gawler

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

First pool competition for 2022 and it was a quiet one as the covid pandemic peaks in SA. UniSA Swimming Club saw its lowest attendance to date with only 3 swimmers, Andrew, Alvin, and Kimberley. It was also the first meet the club was unable to enter a relay team or break any state records. The club still did well considering we only returned to training for 3 weeks from a 4-week training break and competed at the Jetty to Jetty swim 3 days prior to Gawler meet. All swim clubs seemed to be struggling with numbers during the meet and therefore, struggled to fill the chairs to time keep.

The day started off with the President of Aquadome Otters forgetting his bathers and asked for UniSA Swim club Vice-President for his. This is what Master Swimming is all about, sharing and friendship. P.s. Andrew does not want his bathers back.

All 3 swimmers entered into the 50m Freestyle with Kimberley in heat 4, Andrew in heat 6 and Alvin in heat 7 and seeded Number 1. There were no PBs met as it is still early on in the season and the swimmers are getting into setting their race plan for the season ahead. Alvin is aiming to enter Uni Nationals which will be held in September over in Perth and is required qualifying times.

Kimberley had a quick short meet with all 3 of her events completed by event number 6 with the 50m Backstroke in event 4 and the 200m Freestyle in event 6. Kimberley also had a big week leading up to Gawler where she had some interesting encounters during her time at work for SAPOL and was in hospital until midnight the night before Gawler. Kimberley anticipated returning to work immediately after Gawler but luckily for her, she had the rest of the day off. So what better way to celebrate a big hard week and a day off after some hard and fast racing with a KFC Zinger box (Did someone say KFC??)??

Alvin completed his races for the day in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, while Andrew raced the 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. Alvin and Andrew finished the day off with lunch with one of the swimmers from Aquadome Otters and Alvin visited the iconic whispering wall 15 mins down the road from the pool.

Hoping more swimmers attend the next pool event but it has been great to see many more open water swimmers out at the beach.
