OWS – 2022 Henley Beach Swim

The end of summer is approaching and it was felt today during the swim with a high of 23 degrees for the day and cold ocean water, but luckily, the conditions were in our favor with nice calm water.

The club had 8 swimmers registered, Albert, Radek, Allana, Andrew, Eli, Mardi, Kim, and Liam. Liam was nowhere to be found at the starting line which meant Andrew and Eli finally have their chance to beat Liam in a swimming race. Everyone has entered the 2km swim with the exception of Kim in the 1km. Andrew and Albert were necks to neck in the first 300m with the leading pack but soon both swimmers dropped away from the busy pack where both swimmers got grabbed on the ass.

Soon all the swimmers were spread out across the field with no one knowing where anyone else was and had to swim their own race. It would be helpful to be swimming alongside another person rather than bring a lone swimmer for the whole duration. Eli got stung by a few jellyfish during her swim which would have been uncomfortable with her blurry googles covered with sunscreen. Allana also had issues with her swimming gear with leaky goggles throughout the 2km swim. Albert hasn't been swimming much due to his recent fracture injury so it was impressive to see him almost at fill recovery smashing out a 2km ocean swim. Andrew, Allana, and Mardi were able to add this 2km swim to their total distance swam in the month of February to raise funds/awareness for sick kids as they are participating in the Starlight Super swim challenge. Please donate what you can to support our members in their challenge but more importantly, the sick kids they are doing this for.

Kim was the first to be out of the water from the club followed by Andrew, Allana, Eli, Albert, Mardi, and Radek. Most stuck around after the swim to gamble their luck with the random number dram and the raffle with diamonds as the grand prize. Andrew was exceptionally lucky today with his number being drawn, 111, and then later his raffle number C71 was called out for the diamond earrings valued at $495. To top it off, Andrew came first in his age group by default as Liam never arrived to complete in his swim.
