OWS - 2022 Jetty to Jetty

A relatively calm and overcast morning between Henley and Grange quickly turned into clear skies and a strong current that challenged many of our swimmers!

This time Uni SA had members at both jetties with Liam, Eli, Mardi, Kim, Radek, and Samuel getting into the water at Henley Jetty while Andrew, Albert, Alvin, and Chelsea stayed on dry sand and volunteered at the finish line at Grange Jetty.

Swimmers didn't have a choice this time around, it was a mad 2.2km dash or nothing! So well done to all the swimmers for giving it a go, and swimming to another jetty that looks dauntingly small on the horizon when you first hop in the water.

Liam smashed out an impressive swim in just over 32 minutes! After that, the current seemed to really pick up and it got a bit more choppy in the water, with Eli and Mardi making it to Grange next in 47 and 54 minutes, respectively. Samuel came out on top in the father-son rivalry with a time of just 1 hour and 2 minutes. It was 12 minutes ahead of Radek who must have had a fierce competition with Kim as they finished less than 20 seconds apart in 1 hour 14 minutes!

As mentioned, thanks to the Uni SA members who decided to represent the club on the volunteering side by helping to set up, hand out drinks and pack up. It was very tempting to jump in the water on such a nice day! Massive shout out to Andrew "Eagle Eyes" Truong who spent the morning trying to spot swimmer's numbers as they crossed the finish line - not an easy task as everyone hurtles towards the finish line 👀

See you at the next Open Water Swim 🌊
