Port Elliot OWS

Updated: May 16, 2021

Today was the first day that we got more than 1 swimmer out to an open water swim (OWS) race. Albert has done several OWS races since the club has been affiliated with Masters Swimming and show a few of our swimmers the ins and outs of OWS. Thank you Albert and his dad (Radek) for providing Andrew Truong, Allana Sagubo, and Ivan Choong some assistance today.

Couldn't get weather any better than today for the Port Elliot OWS. A top of 21.7 degrees and sunny. Port Elliot is notorious for it's harsh environment of big swells which made it difficult to see and breathe. Our swimmers battled hard against the tough conditions and performed well.

There was a total of 48 swimmers in the 900m category. Ivan lead the UniSA Swimming Club in the 900m race to come 8th overall with a time of 18:07.4, Allana coming in 10th overall with a final time of 18:43.4 with Andrew trailing behind finishing 14th overall with a time of 19:33.8. All 3 swimmers also finished first in their respected age and gender.

Albert and Radek swam the big 1800m race to show the newcomers how it's done. There was a total of 89 swimmers in the 1800m category. Albert placed 25th overall with a time of 35:39.4 and Radek finishing 72nd with a time of 49.08.5.

Well done to all our open water swimmers on your results and courage to step out of the comfortable pool environment. Hope to see more of our swimmers at future OWS.
