Woodside Swim Meet

Updated: May 16, 2021

New month, new successful meet. This month it was back at woodside where we had our first club appearance as unaffiliated Masters Swimming SA club. We were back to dominate the pool and that we did. Started off with Jay swimming his 400 Freestyle trying to improve his time from Gawler meet. Jay swam a time of 5:29.91 compared to his initial 00 Freestyle time of 5:44.48. Jay was able to keep his race plan pace of 40-43 seconds per 50m. We had a few other swimmers who swam the big 400m races including Alvin in the 400m Backstroke, Nick in the 400m Breaststroke, and Andrew in the 400m Butterfly. All 3 swimmers swam a state record with Nick smashing the current National (6:30.46) with a time of 5:54.62. Alvin swam a time of 5:09.70 and Andrew came in on a time of 6:16.23. Congratulations on all 4 swimmers swimming the tough 400m races. Alvin also broke another state record in the 50m Freestyle with a time of 24.90 after swimming in heat 4 of 8 due to Alvin’s mistake of putting a time 10 seconds slower than he initially planned. Jules debut in his first ever swimming race today in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke. Our head coach Andrew interviewed Jules post meet. If you want to see what Jules had to say about his debut go visit our Instagram highlights for the video. We would also like to thank Mardi for being the club photographer for the day. To see her amazing work, visit her Instagram @mardijo. She is available for hire to functions and weddings. Woodside is the final meet in the 2020-21 Summer Series. Here are the standings from all 4 meets:

  • Gawler 31/01/21 = 4th overall with 196 points

  • Strathalbyn 28/02/21 = 6th overall with 186 points

  • Woodside 14/03/21 = 4th overall with 228 points

  • Total score for 2020-21 Summer series = 7th overall with 610 points.

On behalf of the UniSA Swimming Club, we would like to thank all our Masters members who participated in the Summer series. We also like to thank Masters Swimming SA for hosting the meets and making us feel welcomed from day 1. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Our next meet will be April 11th at Masters States held at SAALC. This will be the first meet where Relays will be included in the program. We hope to see as many of our members out there as possible.
